NEW Met Opera SEASON 2021 opening delayed until December 31, 2020.
Due to the global pandemic, the difficult decision to cancel the first few months of the 2020–21 season has been made. As a result of the new season delay, while the LIVE IN HD season will continue, the first three events have been cancelled as shown below. Local titles will be rescheduled as follows, with LIVE IN HD dates for December's Gala to be announced shortly.
REVISED DATES AND CANCELLED TITLES FOR 2020
CANCELLED - AIDA (Verdi)
CANCELLED - IL TROVATORE (Verdi)
CANCELLED - FIDELIO (Beethoven)
New date: THE GERSHWIN'S PORGY & BESS - Saturday, 10 October 2020
New date: AGRIPPINA - Saturday, 7 November 2020
The new season is now scheduled to begin Live on 31 December 2020, with a special gala performance, the details of which will be shared at a later date. “Given the enormous organizational complexity of the Met’s schedule, we have no choice but to cancel our fall season,” General Manager Peter Gelb said.
“The health and safety of our company members and our audience is our top priority, and it is simply not feasible to return to the opera house for a September opening while social distancing remains a requirement.”
