Luna Palace Cinemas is delighted to announce advance screenings of the Golden Globe winning I, TONYA, an alternately tragic, hilarious and absurd look at one of the biggest scandals in US sports history involving controversial Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding.
Join us on Wednesday, January 24, 6.30pm at Luna on SX and 6.45pm at Cinema Paradiso, and be in with the chance of winning a Luna Palace Cinemas goodie bag. PLUS we're inviting you to pick a side and choose between a Tonya Harding or Nancy Kerrigan cocktail to purchase from the bar!
In 1994, the figure-skating world was rocked by a brutal attack on US medal hopeful Nancy Kerrigan. The more shocking news was that the attack was allegedly conceived and executed by those close to — and perhaps including — rival figure skater Tonya Harding.
You might expect to see a film about Kerrigan, her triumphant recovery, and her silver medal at the Lillehammer Olympics, but that's not the story we get here. This is Tonya's story.
Written by Steven Rogers and directed by Craig Gillespie (Mr Woodcock, Lars and The Real Girl) and featuring a transformative performance from Margot Robbie as Tonya and an unforgettable turn from Allison Janney, who picked up a Golden Globe for her performance as her mother, this part mockumentary and part tragicomedy is a shamelessly entertaining film that goes behind the tabolid headlines to reveal a very different insight into Tonya's life.
Golden Globe winner: Best Supporting Actress - Allison Janney
SAG Awards nominations: Outstanding Performance by a Female Lead Actor (Margot Robbie); Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Allison Janney).
"Hilarious. Sharp, snarling, pitch perfect." THE BOSTON GLOBE
"Margot Robbie is sensational." DEADLINE
"Allison Janney's performance is gold." THE GUARDIAN
