A FEW BEST MEN ....100mins (MA15+) SAT FEB 25 and
MON MAR 5
...

When English lad David (Xavier Samuel) announces he is getting married to an Australian, his hapless mates give a whole new meaning to the phrase 'for better or worse'! The chaos-filled wedding day tests their new marriage, challenges David's relationships with his three best men, and risks turning what should be the best day of their lives into the worst. This outrageous comedy has been called the Aussie ‘Hangover’ and is from the writer of Death at a Funeral and Stephan Elliott, director of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Jonathan Biggins and Olivia Newton-John are the bride's folks and Steve Le Marquand
almost steals the movie as a crazed drug dealer.

THE ARTIST ....100mins (PG) WED MAR 21,
MON MAR 26,
SAT MAR 31,
THUR APR 12
and
FRI APR 20
...
Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist is not only a throw back to the days before people spoke in films; it almost makes you wonder why we ever added sound in the first place. This multi-award winning gem (also nominated for 10 Oscars) is filmed in stunning black-and-white and takes us back to a time when men wore suits, women wore hats and a simple dance could lead to love. Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo shine as the film's two leads able to say more with a look or a soft shoe than most of us can in 140 characters. It's Hollywood in 1927. George Valentin (Dujardin) is a silent movie superstar. The advent of the talkies will sound the death knell for his career and see him fall into oblivion. For young extra Peppy Miller (Bejo), it seems the sky's the limit - major movie stardom awaits. The Artist tells the story of their interlinked destinies.
ANY QUESTIONS FOR BEN?....114mins (M) MON MAR 19,
WED MAR 28
and
SAT APR 7
...
For 27-year-old Ben (Josh Lawson), life couldn't be better. He has a well paying job, friends and nothing to tie him down. But when he is invited back to his old school to join several others for a student Q&A about their personal achievements, something goes wrong: Ben is the only speaker not to be asked a question. This triggers a year of soul-searching and looking for answers in all the wrong places. From his best friend Andy (Snowtown's AACTA Award-winning Daniel Henshall), whose solution is that they both take another holiday, to his mentor Sam (Lachy Hulme), who loans him a sports car, Ben's search for answers comes up empty. Soon he begins to suspect that the meaning of life may well reside in the things he's already doing - and a girl he once knew (Rachael Taylor). From the Working Dog Team, who brought you The Castle, Frontline and The Dish.
THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL ....123mins (PG) SAT MAR 17 and
SAT APR 21
...

A group of British retirees (Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson) decide to ‘outsource’ their retirement to less
expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel they arrive to find their accommodation, managed by Slumdog Millionaire’s Dev Patel, a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared
experiences. This is a joyous and entertaining film from John Madden, the director of Shakespeare in Love, about how the human spirit remains undimmed.

CARNAGE ....80mins (M) WED FEB 29 and
MON APR 9
...

Acclaimed director Roman Polanski (Chinatown, The Pianist) directs Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly in the screen adaptation of the Tony-Award winning play God of Carnage. Set in contemporary New York, Carnage is a bitterly amusing story on the contradictions and prejudices of two well-heeled American families. After their sons are involved in a playground fight, two sets of parents: Nancy and Alan (Winslet and Waltz); and Penelope and Michael (Foster and Reilly) meet to settle the dispute. However, the polite discussion of child-rearing soon escalates into verbal warfare, with all four parents revealing their true colours. Unpredictable and shocking, the film hilariously exposes the hypocrisy lurking behind their polite facade.

J. EDGAR ....137mins (M) TUE JAN 24 and
THUR MAR 1
...

Leonard Di Caprio stars in Clint Eastwood’s biopic of the first head of the FBI. During his lifetime, J. Edgar Hoover would rise to be the most powerful man in America. He was a visionary - changing the world of forensics - but he would stop at nothing to protect his country and maintain his position. (He outlasted eight presidents and three wars). Hoover understood that knowledge is power and fear poses opportunity so he used both to gain unprecedented influence and to build a reputation that was both formidable and untouchable. Hoover was a man who placed great value on secrets - particularly those of others - but he was as guarded in his private life as he was in his public one, allowing only a small and protective inner circle into his confidence. His closest colleague, Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer, last seen in duplicate in The Social Network), was also his constant companion.

As Adam & Mary respond to these challenges in completely opposite and unpredictable ways (successfully infuriating each other in the process), their three adult children plot to find ways to keep them together. With luminous supporting performances from a mix of established and upcoming British acting talent (including Simon Callow, Kate Ashfield and Luke Treadaway), Late Bloomers is an elegant and engaging portrait of marriage, and the joys & realities of getting on.

No help, no contact, off the grid. You have never seen a mission grittier and more intense than this. Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Josh Holloway and Michael Nyqvist co-star. And who needs stuntmen? Jason Segal, his Muppet brother Walter and Amy Adams (along with a number of inspired cameos) seek out Kermit the Frog to get him to raise money in order to save the old Muppet Theatre and bring his whole Muppet gang together again. (okay, it's the Blues... sorry Muppet Brothers) The musical numbers are enormously catchy (Man or Muppet by Flight of the Conchords' Brett Mackenzie is an Oscar-nominee) and most importantly, the Muppet’s are just as wild, witty and wonderful as they ever were before. There is cause for celebration indeed - and not just for kids - this is a funny, wickedly self-aware comedy. Everyone will love it.

THE RUM DIARY ....120mins (M) WED MAR 14 and

...
The year is 1960, the city is San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the nostalgia is all ring-a-ding-ding. Johnny Depp is Paul Kemp - a portrait of his gonzo creator, Hunter S. Thompson, in all but name. This story about the exotic misadventures of a young journalist from Thompson’s semi-autobiographical first novel is reworked, primarily, as an origin story: with the first stirrings of the writer’s voice as his political consciousness grows fangs (enter his nemesis, Richard Nixon). Director Bruce Robinson knows debauchery well - he made the hysterical Withnail & I - and Depp's reaction to swigging homemade rum is worth the the ticket alone. And yes, there will be drugs.

From the director of Chocolat and the screenwriter of Slumdog Millionaire comes the inspirational comedy based on Paul Torday’s novel. But when the Prime Minister's overzealous press secretary (Kristin Scott Thomas) latches on to it as a "good will" story, this unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible. MITV and Cape Mentelle are donating profits from this special premiere screening to benefit the Margaret River Coastal Residents Association in the wake of November's bush fires. Funds will be used to rehabilitate the burnt dune systems at Prevelly and Gnarabup.
